This week we did some science projects with pumpkins! First, we used our engineering skills. The class was split into 4 groups and worked together to create a structure to roll a pumpkin off of. They designed the structure, rolled the pumpkin, measured the length, adjusted their design, and did another test roll. Each group had 3 trials. I loved watching them work together and they had a blast!
Later that week, we read the book How Many Seeds in a Pumpkin. In the book, a class does an experiment where they carve three pumpkins (big, medium, and small) and count the seeds inside. They find out that the size of the pumpkin doesn't matter when it comes to the amount of seeds inside. So we decided to do the same thing! The class was split into 3 groups. They each scooped out the pumpkin, sorted out the seeds, and counted them into groups of ten. We learned that the pumpkins that are darker orange and the more lines it has on it, have more seeds inside! We had a messy blast with this one.
